Statistically it must be raining on very few saturdays, at least in Denmark where I have been shooting most of my weddings the last couple of years.

I have had one or two weddings where the weather was not behaving at it’s best, giving a few drops of rain during the day. Never nothing much but as I said a few drops of rain.

Maybe for an hour or so and then it has stopped.

Last weekend I was shooting Lone and Heine’s beautiful wedding in Sct. Hans Kirke in Hjørring, Denmark.

When I woke up at 5.30 AM in the morning and saw the fantastic sunlight coming through the very, very light overcast I really thought that the weather would be wonderful.

Was I wrong or what!?

You know the saying: -There is no bad weather, only poor clothing. Well, It is a little hard to tell a bride to just wear a Windbreaker or a Trenchcoat or anything else that totally covers her carefully chosen Masterpiece of a wedding dress during the portrait session.

I won’t be the one doing it anyway.

Arriving at Lone’s house where she and her girls where getting ready I thought as I stepped out of the car, – Well the rain is not too bad and it will probably stop soon since it’s merely a few drops coming down.

I was wrong, again!

It kept raining all day, even though it was not more than a few drops coming, it was still raining most of the day.

Being such an optimist I was confident that the lovely umbrellas that Lone and Heine had bought just in case of rain would let us get through the portrait session without problems.

Wrong again!

We did shoot some relaxed portraits inside the church after the ceremony just to be safe… and then we went to Sct. Knuds Kilde i Hjørring, a lovely little oasis with a small “wood” and little “lakes”, an open air theater, open grass areas and even a wishing well.

I have shot weddings in Hjørring before but this is the first time for me to be visiting Sct. Knuds Kilde, Its a very pretty place and it’s a bit like stepping into a fantasy world, it’s just missing the castle to be a complete Disney fantasy.

We drove through the “woods” on narrow roads looking for a spot to shoot in. Even though the Jaguar MKII Lone and Heine was driven in is a truly beautiful car I couldn’t help thinking that a carriage pulled by white horses would have been more appropriate considering the surroundings…

Anyway, we merely had stepped out of our rides and started shooting before the sky let it’s ports wide open and all the rain down on us. I mean it was massive, it nearly hurt when the rain drops hit my head.

I must say that Lone and Heine was so relaxed and totally cool about it and they were just laughing. We did get some good shots before we had to bail for the cars and drive to the reception. It almost resembled a trash the dress session held a bit to early…

The light can often be fantastic when it’s raining and this time was no exeption so we did manage to get som really good images before we drove to the reception that was held at Løkkens Vei Kro just outside of the very popular resort Løkken in the northern parts of Jylland.

At the reception I went on with my thing, capturing real life photos of the couple and their guests who were continuing having a great wedding day.

Lone and Heine, a huge thank you for having me shoot your wedding, I really enjoyed being a part of your wedding day, capturing all those wonderful moments in real life. Your album is on it’s way to the album company, I’m sure that you will love it.

When I was sitting there contemplating the work at hand, these people walked by carrying beer cases. I ask, can you get a better feeling for summer and party…?

Ever since my gorgeous wife became pregnant with our first daughter in 2006 I have been looking at pregnancy in a new light. There is something spectacular about a pregnant woman. It’s like she glows from within, a devine light that transfers to her surroundings and makes everything brighter. For that reason I love to photograph pregnant women. And the way I want to photograph my pregnant clients is as everything else I shoot, in real life, in their home or other places of importance for them. I don’t shoot in studio because I want my clients to be themselves doing their thing, from there I capture the portraits, details and precious moments in everyday life.

Of course my ability to see and capture photographs has evolved since that first time when I held a camera as a young boy but the feeling of magic i have when pressing the shutter is exactly the same as it was then. It was that feeling that made me know that this is what I want to do in my life.

For me it’s equally important to have the fathers in the photographs. They to are important and to see the joy and pride in a mans face when he is looking at his pregnant woman always makes me happy. I love happy! That’s a state of mind that everybody should be in everyday.

I want to share some photographs of pregnant couples to illustrate what I mean.

The last couple of weeks I’ve been traveling extensively between Sweden and Denmark due to increasing demand for my photography in my home country of Sweden. I will most probably soon split my time between the two countries and also expand my time spent in Germany.

Well, It’s a bit of an understatment to say that the wind was blowing a bit. Sometimes during the day, it almost took Charlotte’s veil off…

But everybody held the spirit high and it was a beautiful ceremony and reception.

The ceremony was held in Gistrup Kirke close to the beautiful town of Aalborg in the northern parts of Jylland, Denmark. The church has a bit unusual but very interesting layout. Visit it if you are nearby.

All parents of small children knows how tired you get when you don’t get to sleep properly for weeks and weeks. The sound of crying babies not only keep you awake but also make you hurt inside for the baby’s sake and eventhough you do all you can to ease their pain many times the result of your efforts are just marginal and all you really can do is to comfort the baby as much as possible and then endure the sleepless nights until it’s over.

We now seem to be over the worst part and they both are getting better. Fie has been ok for some time and Lucca seems to be on the way to recover too.

Today I lay her down in her bed for a midday nap, and when she started rubbing her eyes with the back of her tiny hands as I fed her from the bottle my hope that she would fall asleep and not be in pain started to rise. Just a few minutes later she was sleeping deeply.

Hurra!!!

She slept for 20 minutes, she should have slept a couple of hours but when things are like they are you learn to appriciate the small things…

As I’m writing this I’m sitting in my car waiting for Ivy, (I’m picking her up at work) I never thought that I would get Lucca to sleep more today but in the car on the way here she fell asleep again and has now been sleeping for about an hour, and I’m afraid to make any noise that could wake the sleeping bear im just sitting here beside her with the engine shut down, listening with absolute joy to her sleeping.

And the sound of the silence when the baby finaly sleeps is almost roaring and I get a well deserved peace of mind.

Update, she has now slept for over two hours! She slept all the way from Frederikshavn to home (26km) and even continued sleeping when I lifted her out of the car. I can’t say how much I enjoy watching her sleep.

I’m off to work now honey, Fie is up and wants breakfast.

Now I was wide awake, and two of my thoughts ran around like stampeeding cows for two seconds and then both of them crashed in to the one still dreaming of daffodils and fairies in the summer meadow I had been dreaming of until that kiss was planted on my forhead. They sat still for a while before I picked them up and finaly understood the meaning of her words.

- Shit, Ivy is going to work for the first time in a year and I have to get both of the kids ready and take them to daycare… Panic spread inside again.

- Can you get Fie ready, I pleeded. But to no use, Ivy was already out the door.
And I bet she was smiling all the way to work… Like this

Look here, it’s not like I don’t know what to do when getting them ready for the day, it’s just that since Ivy has been at home taking care of the girls and the house since Lucca was born about 9 months ago, I’ve been taking care of business, and that’s how we planned to have it until Ivy should start working again…
And today she was… :-O

It’s not like I never do the homely things but the domestic responsibility has been mostly Ivys. This sounds worse when I’m writing it. So I have to say that I feel that I have lifted my share around the house and kids…

Ok, ok, I admit that I’ve been priviliged and that Ivy has changed most of the poo- dipers and stood up most of the times in the middle of the night to feed the baby.

So I’m, let’s say, a little out of practise when it comes to organize an early morning with two small girls that needs to have their dipers changed, clean clothes, different kinds of breakfasts (one is soon 3 years and the other 9 months old), new clean clothes after wearing their brekfast… And of course new dipers again, because they both made nr. 2 after eating.

Ok, pack them in winterclothes, luckily Fie, the soon three year old, can get most of her clothes on by herself… but you always have to keep an eye on her, otherwise she will alwyas find something to play with while putting on her clothes. And then you will find the clothes one place and her somewhere else.
Lucca is easier in the way that she doesn’t run around playing, yet, but she has a strong aversion about getting much clothes on, so she does what she can to make things harder for me while dressing her.

Without stressing but in a good pace, we got everything right, me and the girls. In about little over an hour we where ready to go out the door and off to the daycare.

After dropping them off and returning home to work in the home office, the house seems very quiet and our German Shepherd, Erro, looks at me like if he’s saying, – You did that pretty good for a guy without practise, but you have a long way to Ivys standards…

I already miss my girls, all three of them and I’m looking forward to picking them up later this afternoon.

Now, I will eat some breakfast ((I forgot earlier…) and then I’m off to work.
